for The Trouble With Houses9/2/2014 c9 Lugumees
Definitely well-matched to the style of the Potter-verse: stand-out student breaks rules, nearly dies, somehow wins with unexpected tricks. Fun to read.
The not-talking-to-each-other segment felt muddled, though. I didn't notice that it was happening until it already had, so the opening wasn't telegraphed very strongly. In my head I was going, "Wait, what? When did this happen?"

I really liked this story! It was kind of a relief to be reading something in the HP universe without the usual rehashing of existing characters. And I felt like Tia was a really believable character, being a snobby Slytherin-but still with regular feelings and a past that was affected negatively by Voldemort. :)

It's all Snapes fault! For the classes since he was teaching anyway. The poor little slytherins come from their arrogant families telling them how great they are and to be high acheivers all their lives-and then they're under Snape's thumb. His constant sneering and criticism. Who can live up to a bitter Snape's expectations? He doesn't seem to have any except to be able to harrass kids as much as possible for misplaced revenge. So the Slytherin students go and desperately try to prove themselves by becoming death eaters! Because death eaters and feared and thus must be powerful and respected, maybe by some dim hope that would rub off on Snape, right?
Lol.
With all the stuff you talked about involving Tia I was surprised when I got the the end of this one shot, I wondered where the rest was. I suppose its still indefinetly bouncing back and forth between you and your husband like a ping pong ball. I like it! Poor Tia, good example of a bad day for a Slytherin. I hope my verbal review is sufficient for the latest of LS...?

Nicely balanced-between action and dialogue as well as personal vs. general conflict. I like the characters; you portrayed Dumbledore very well. The flashback was helpful, too; it gave me a good feel for Tia's past and any possible motives she might have had.

Very well written. You have very little OOCness, except I believe Dumbledore would have guessed that Tia would go after Grant. I particularly liked Tia's character and Dumbledore's explanation of Grant being in Gryffindor. Also, the phoenix candle and the spells were very realistic. This was an excellent fic and I'd really like to see more fics by you!

I can see that you have a lot of real talent here. I think the idea and the characters are excellent, even though I think the "villain", Grant, could use some work. I think JK Rowling would definitely approve of this, considering it's House role-reversal plotwork. In this last chapter, Mara's entrance and dialogue gave me chills. You gave it just the right elements to create a sense that an important event is taking place. This story is not over-written, and the descriptions are near-perfect. The only other thing I can think of is making the storyline a bit more... complicated, maybe? I can't really think of the word I'd like to use, but it's there.
Either way, this is a creative and well-written story, with a good background meaning and nice relevance to the original Harry Potter books, even though it's not about the main HP characters.
Keep up the good work, and I am eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Naruke: I like this! Did you make up those spells?
Shikamaru: Tia's funny. She seems like the kind of person that I would want to know and meet.
Naruke: I think you've said that already.
Shikamaru: Whatever!

Good start Tia. I like the little touches that make the story fit so naturally into the Hogwarts universe, like the "cushion of air."

Naruke: This is the first Harry Potter fic I've read, and I must say...it's very good!
Shikamaru: You're writing style is very life-like in the fact that you make it seem like you're not telling a story but you're actually living in that person's head. *worships*
