Beautifully done/ Painful and tragic in some parts but at least they had a long life together as I had always wished they could have. Hard for Alexander to be alone but he would soon be back with his Hephaestion though the time between would be hard.

What a beautiful story, full of details, as usual.
The memories that each thing brought to Alexander made the reading quite vivid.
Poor Phai, losing his only daughter in such a terrible way and I can imagine Alexander's pain for his son's bad behaviour.
I have to agree with Alexander, maybe it was a kind of "punishment" to learn to live without his Phai by his side ...

Ah my dear:
This is a very touching story and I enjoy it very much.
Personally I cannot imagine Alexander living to an old ripe age. He pushed himself too hard and burned himself too fast –virtually exchanging his health and life for glories and victories, and I simply cannot imagine him mellow down and live a long life.
Even if Hephaistion didn’t die in Ecbatana, I cannot imagine Alexander living long after that, with all his injuries and heavy drinking habits, but he could be spared the torture of heartbreak and nervous breakdown after his soul-mate’ death, and maybe lived a few years longer.
What would happen if Hephaistion survived Alexander? Will he suffer the same ignominious fate as Perdiccas? My guess is that he would hold up the Persian side of the Alexander Empire, and therefore there would be Hephaistion Empire instead of Seleucid Empire. Who knows?
In your story our boys had such turbulent family life with their children, which surprised me. First of all, Roxana would never dare to put a finger on Alexander’s other wives had he been alive. The Persian princesses outranked her, and she certainly dared not and had no power to murder them. Second, I would be surprised that young Alexander turned out to be so vicious under the loving and caring family of two devoting fathers, as I am sure Alexander and Hephaistion would be. I personally don’t believe anyone is born evil and you certainly make young Alexander look that way.
In the story our boys finally marched to the end of the world, I am sure Alexander would enjoy that. I love the idea that our boys are called Divine Twins and personally I would like to see Alexander formally recognize Hephaistion as his Prince Consort, which is what Hephaistion is, after all.
The pain that Alexander suffered after Hephaistion’s death is so terrible I won’t wish it on my enemies. It is shocking to see a young, great conqueror completely broken down at his soul-mate’s death, and lingered a few month tortured life after that. Alexander ranked glory and victory above everything else, certainly above health, longevity, and happiness. I wonder if Hephaistion’s death finally taught him there are things that are much more important than glory and victory and if it did, Alexander learned his lesson the most painful way.
